Optomet NOVA laser vibrometer in a vibration measurement setup.
CLASSIC Series

CLASSIC Nova.

Durable single-point vibrometer that captures almost any type of vibration while remaining insensitive to surface conditions.

Digital Free-Beam SWIR Laser Vibrometer: Capture virtually all types of vibrations with our robust, surface-insensitive system.

The Nova Series is a modern and digital free-beam laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) that operates with a SWIR measurement laser (Short-Wavelength-InfraRed; SWIR). The Nova Series is indispensable when every decibel of signal level matters or when an exceptional dynamic range is required. Typical scenarios include structures that poorly reflect visible light, such as dark and rough surfaces or biological tissue. Signal strength is also crucial for measurements over long distances, for example in construction or on glowing surfaces like turbine blades in the aerospace industry or in vehicle and plant engineering.

01

Improved Signal Level

The wavelength of 1550 nm used allows for ten times higher output power (10 mW) compared to vibrometers with visible HeNe lasers. Nevertheless, maximum eye safety is ensured with laser safety class 1. Additionally, photodetectors in this wavelength range have an efficiency of more than 98%. Combined with the higher laser power, the signal level is 20 dB higher than conventional laser Doppler vibrometers.

02

Infrared Laser Vibrometry - Measure on All Surfaces

The short-wavelength infrared laser source (SWIR) used in the Nova Series enables vibration measurements on any surface without treatment. Even on the most challenging surfaces, whether deep black, glowing metal, or glass, precise vibration data with a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is recorded. Measurements on carbon fiber composite plates or other non-cooperative materials can be performed just as easily as measurements at distances of more than 200 m, without the need to treat the surface of the measurement object.

03

Stability

With only a single longitudinal laser mode, sensitivity is independent of changes in the measurement distance. The device's immediate readiness for operation after switching on and its stability against fluctuations in ambient temperature are further advantageous features.
